Kororinpa Sequel Announced

Kororinpa: Marble Mania was one of the first good games to strike out on the Wii. After a year and a half without another peep from the series, news has come in that it’s finally getting its second wind. Marble Saga: Kororinpa is scheduled for release in the Spring of 2009 with four player modes, Wi-Fi functionality, map editing, and Balance Board support. Via the Wi-Fi connection, you’ll be able to send and receive player generated maps with your friends and will also be treated to downloadable maps from Hudson after the game’s release.

“Unique features in Marble Saga: Kororinpa allow fun customization for players. From designing the ball with attributes to helping players navigate through stages easier, to Miis™ and preset fun images, to an Edit Mode which allows for custom design of a unique stage, gamers can really make this entertaining experience their own. For a more competitive tone, a 4-person multiplayer mode allows players to compete with three other opponents on the same map as each races to the finish line. For more customization and group fun with others, the Wii Connect 24 feature allows gamers to share the unique stages they created with their friends or to receive extra stages from Hudson after the game’s launch via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Additionally, Wi-Fi Leaderboards let players compete online against each other to see who can navigate through the world the fastest.”

The first game literally revolves around marbles. Using the Wii Remote, you tilt and turn each stage to navigate your favorite ball to the goal. It’s very much like the Monkey Ball series except it has a lot more variety. You can use all sorts of different marbles including animal themed ones that make sounds, those with heavier or lighter weight, and even ones with very little friction. It suffered from a peculiar controller setup and a lack of any sort of marketing I can recall.

Anyways, here are some screenshots for Marble Saga: Kororinpa for the Wii.
