Nintendo Won’t Let Bionic Commando Swing to the VC

Many Wii owners have been waiting quite a long time for some noteworthy games to be released on the Virtual Console. Now today, hope for the original Bionic Commando to be released on the Wii has been crushed. Capcom has requested this fan favorite to be released on Nintendo’s downloadable content venue but has been denied for an undisclosed reason. Ben Judd, the producer of the fabled title’s anticipated remake on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, told 1UP it wasn’t Capcom’s decision to exclude the game from the Wii’s library.

“1UP: What about the original Bionic Commando for Virtual Console?

BJ: We couldn’t get it approved for the Virtual Console.

1UP: Is that because of the whole Nazi thing?

BJ: I can’t say why. I can just say that we tried to get it to work. We’re huge fans of the game. When you think about it, it totally makes sense as a strategy to have the original game out there in some format that people can play and see what was so great about it. But we were told no.”

As 1UP asked, Nintendo might have rejected it due to the Nazi party being depicted in the game. Of course, that’s just be an assumption but a very probable one. Maybe we’ll see a censored version somewhere down the line but until then, you’ll need to look elsewhere. Won’t
