Samba De Amigo – The First Wii Game To Require Pay To Play?

Samba De Amigo is coming back from the Sega graveyard with maracas in hand and a peculiar tag on its cover. An orange square has popped up on the mascot’s box art on EB Games website. What could it mean you ask? Well a few months back, Nintendo announced their plans to take their online gaming to new, affordable heights. The Pay to Play program will require gamers to fork over an undisclosed amount of cash to access their online servers and compete in certain games – ones labeled with an orange square on their covers.

If you ask me, this game shouldn’t require a fee to play online especially when you compare Samba’s and Brawl’s gameplay side by side. The whole game revolves around nothing more than DDR like shakings of the Wii Remote. I think the only type of game that could call for an online fee would be an MMO game like Animal Crossing. I have no idea why they’d require what’s essentially a simplistic minigame to charge for online play when big games like Mario Kart and Medal of Honor Heroes 2 don’t. Well, I guess it’s up to the consumer to decide if they’ll pay, not me.
