Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe Debut Trailer

Wow, this news has totally taken the gaming world by surprise. Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe is a one of a kind match up, that’s for sure! Oh wait, there’s that one 12 year old Marvel vs Capcom… series.

So is DC trying to pull the same move Marvel did over 10 years ago? It certainly seems as such. Who knows, maybe down the road it’ll become Midway vs DC and we can use Rampage and Guantlet characters along side the Mortal Kombat crew. I can see it now; Lizzy taking on Aquaman… and her fatality would be making her opponent strip and walk off the stage hiding their shame!

One thing many gamers are concerned about are, of course, the fatalities. However, if you pause the video at :31, you can clearly see Batman knocking some blood out of Sub-Zero. So if DC is ok with a bit of blood-slinging, I wouldn’t doubt that they’re ok with some death. I’m pretty sure they knew Mortal Kombat was a bloody game when they signed on.

I might be one of the few out there, but I actually like the idea. As long as they keep the fatalities up to snuff, I’ll be happy to slap down $50 on this endeavor. I mean, we haven’t seen a cross-franchise match up in a while, why shouldn’t these two have a whack at it?

UPDATE: Within hours of posting this, confirmation that this was not coming to the Wii came directly from the Boon’s mouth. Ed Boon, the project lead of the MK series, stated in a recent interview with GameSpot.com that this was coming to the 360 and PS3 and said nothing about the Wii. If it were coming to Nintendo’s shores, he would have mentioned it.
